Good Shepherd Pharmacy Advocates for Health Literacy with the mCharts App
MEMPHIS, TN—Healthcare is rapidly changing and Americans are demanding a more personalized experience. Good Shepherd Pharmacy in Memphis, Tennessee is giving them exactly that through their new partnership with Connetix Health and the mCharts app.
Connetix Health’s flagship application, mCharts, is a personal health record (or PHR) that aggregates patient health records across multiple providers and stores a comprehensive record securely in HIPAA-compliant services in the cloud. Users are able to easily understand their own records via a visual body map and Facebook-like timeline.
After evaluating the top 5 PHRs across the country, Good Shepherd founder, Phil Baker, decided mCharts would be the most beneficial to the pharmacy’s members. “We selected mCharts because of the immediacy of data access and health literacy.” Baker said.
Good Shepherd is a membership-based pharmacy that provides free or at-cost prescriptions to those who otherwise could not afford them. It is a technology-driven operation with the aim of promoting health literacy for all. Beginning in January, Good Shepherd introduced the $50-a-month GoodShepRx 901 Program membership that includes 24/7 access to a pharmacist through call, text and video chat. Good Shepherd’s offering includes mCharts, which collects and maintains the member’s health record, aiding in understanding of treatment plans.
mCharts is among the first applications to capitalize on US government regulation changes that guarantee patient access to their health records. “The Department of Health and Human Services wants patients to have access to their records and be more engaged as partners in care. Studies have shown that patients have better outcomes if they are knowledgeable and engaged,” said Connetix Health founder, Kirstan Vandersluis.
